“If You Give A Mouse A Cookie” is the title of a book that examines the consequences which cascade from a relatively simple act. One thing leads to another and then another and then still another. First the mouse, then the cookie, then the glass of milk, then the dealing with the milk moustache…it all becomes very involved. What begins as a simple act leads to a series of complex interactions and various outcomes.

As marketers, that’s exactly what we want to make happen.  As inbound marketers we want to engage visitors and motivate them to interact. So part of our job is to become an “Internet baker”, baking content for mice, or creating compelling reasons for a visitor to click their mouse and in the process create a cookie or electronic paper trail of what will hopefully become a series of interactions that lead to a relationship. Sure, creating compelling, worthwhile content takes time, consideration and a heaping helping of elbow grease. But generally speaking, the returns are proportional to the effort expended. Like most things, it’s 99% perspiration and 1% inspiration! Put in the time, make the effort, be persistent, be consistent and the rewards will come. Go ahead, get inspired, create and give that mouse a cookie!
